Agentic AI Took Center Stage for SMBs at Boomi World 2025

BOOMI WORLD 2025, Dallas, Texas: Boomi CEO Steve Lucas has a mission for his application automation, orchestration, and integration company – to enable businesses of all sizes, from small to large, to use agentic AI to make them just as powerful and capable as the retail industry titan that is Walmart.For decades, this has not been the case, Lucas said in his keynote at his company’s Boomi World 2025 conference recently. “The reality is that in the retail landscape, the road is littered with small mom and pop shop competitors to Walmart,” many of which go out of business when the retail giant comes to their towns. “I guarantee you, Walmart is going to transform everything, because their ethos is lower prices for the consumer.“This is where agentic AI is bringing yet a new round of changes for Walmart, and new hopes for the SMBs that are still trying to compete with the market leader, said Lucas. By using agentic AI and the Boomi platform, these new tools will dramatically give smaller companies a fighting chance in their industries, he said.“I believe that we exist, that Boomi should be here for everyone that isn’t spending billions of dollars on AI to not just survive in this new era of AI but to thrive,” said Lucas. “I believe that that is part of our responsibility, but it’s an incredible opportunity.”What is coming for these smaller companies over the next 24 months, he said, are more AI agents that “will understand you, your company, what you do, your background, your profile, the decisions you make,” to help all companies better compete and drive their businesses, even if they are small and don’t have big AI budgets. The AI agents will take hated scores of manual processes, such as the dreaded task of life-disrupting business expense reports, and file and approve them without hassles, he said.“You’ll talk to it,” Lucas said of the agents. “It’ll show up and say, ‘hey, you have three expense reports, [let’s] totally approve those.’ You’re good. This is going to happen, and that’s just tip of the iceberg.”

Agentic AI Will Level the Playing Field for Businesses

Using Boomi, what is coming for SMBs is the largest transformation in business history, said Lucas. “Digital transformation will pale in comparison. Every software application will be rewritten. The user interface … will change entirely. We won’t log into systems, but so much more will be rewritten.”To do this “entire software stacks will be built natively around AI,” he continued. “This will all happen. We are not going back. The opportunity is $15 trillion of new money in the next five years. $15 trillion is up for grabs. I want to be part of that jump ball. You want to be part of that jump ball. Don’t we all want to participate in $15 trillion worth of value creation? And that’s what we will do. We will do this together with AI.”

AI Product Enhancements Unveiled at Boomi World 2025

Other big news out of Boomi World 2025 were company’s announcements about the general availability of Boomi Agentstudio, the introduction of more new AI agents, and the addition of Boomi Data Integration (formerly Rivery) to the Boomi Enterprise Platform. The company also announced its support and integration of the Model Context Protocol (MCP) open standard within the Boomi platform.The general availability of Boomi Agentstudio (formerly Boomi AI Studio) provides Boomi customers with a full agent lifecycle management platform that helps organizations to design, govern, and orchestrate all AI agents at scale within a secure, no-code environment. Also included is enterprise-grade governance to help customers accelerate AI agent development for real-world use cases, from customer support to expense report automation.More than 33,000 Boomi AI agents have already been deployed by Boomi customers so far, with new agents arriving regularly. The AI agents are being used to automate complex tasks, streamline business processes, and accelerate application, data, and API integration for companies, reducing time-to-value and boosting operational efficiency.Some of the newest agents include an Integration Advisor Agent, which autonomously reviews integration processes; an API Design Agent, which allows developers to rapidly design and edit APIs tailored to business and technical needs; an API Documentation Agent, which accelerates time-to-market and increases adoption by autonomously generating business and technical documentation from API definitions; and a Data Connector Agent that can be used to quickly design and create data integration connectors for any REST-based data source.The new Model Context Protocol (MCP) support is being added to the Boomi platform to allow AI agents to easily connect with the tools and resources they need to plan and execute tasks. The Boomi Enterprise Platform will incorporate native MCP support throughout its architecture, recognizing it as a primary protocol for process execution and automatically exposing APIs as MCP server endpoints via Boomi API Management. Boomi Agentstudio will leverage MCP to access tools, while the introduction of a new MCP gateway will enable tool aggregation and discovery, while providing enterprise grade security and governance.Boomi Data Integration, which was formerly known as Rivery, provides automated, end-to-end data pipelines that organizations can use to accelerate the delivery of analytics and AI-driven data products, according to Boomi. Boomi Data Integration features managed data connectors, log-based change data capture (CDC), an intuitive modern UI, and enhanced observability, to enable users to ingest, transform, and activate data from any source on a large scale and with high precision.The Boomi Enterprise Platform is used to connect systems and manage data flows with API management, integration, data management, and AI orchestration.
